Finance Council

The Finance Council assists and advises the Pastor in overseeing and controlling the financial affairs of the parish. The Pastor consults with the Council to ensure sound fiscal management for the parish. The Code of Canon Law (Canon 537) requires that each parish have a Finance Council.

The Council meets monthly, October through June. Members have a background in business and expertise in management, finance, accounting, legal matters, and related professional fields.

Council Responsibilities

  • Manage the preparation of the annual parish budget
  • Receive and review monthly financial reports
  • Monitor the program for the care and maintenance of parish facilities
  • Assure that proper accounting procedures are followed
  • Report annually to the parish on the financial condition of the parish
  • Develop and implement a long-range capital improvement plan


Council Members, 2016-2017

Christine Boydstun
came to St. Joseph the Worker in 1991, attracted by the wonderful “family” feeling and diversity of our parish. In addition to serving on the Finance Council, she is a lector and has been a catechist in the Religious Education Program. She has also helped with the St. Vincent de Paul program to feed the homeless in our community. Chris brings a professional background in accounting to the Council.


Terry Dawson
brings more than thirty years of experience in facilities management to the Finance Council. He was Associate Director of Physical Plant Management at California State University, Northridge (CSUN), where he had broad responsibility for plant operations, staff management, and budget administration. Terry and his wife, Betty, have been parishioners since 1972. Terry ushers at 7:30 a.m. Mass and is a member of the Knights of Columbus. He served as Grand Knight in the 1980s. Terry was active in the Holy Name Society for many years and also served as Cub Scout Master at St. Joseph the Worker School.


Ryan Heredia
is an accountant at Telmate, a company that provides communication services and customer service to hundreds of correctional facilities in the U.S. and Canada. He received the sacraments of First Holy Communion and Confirmation here at St. Joseph the Worker and was an active altar server. He attended our school for sixth, seventh, and eighth grades.


Lien Le
was baptized into the church in 1988. She and her husband, Brian, came to St. Joseph the Worker that same year. Lien soon became actively involved with the parish Vietnamese community. She served as the treasurer, then as vice chair, and currently is the chair of the Vietnamese community. Lien has also served on the Pastoral Council. In addition, she is involved in parish activities, as a Eucharistic minister and lector. Lien’s professional background is in engineering. She works for Northrop Grumman, where she began as a software engineer and is currently a software manager.


Steve Martin, Chair
a Certified Public Accountant, has worked in public accounting and is currently a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) in private industry.He and his wife, Karen, have been parishioners since moving to Winnetka in 1978. Their three daughters attended St. Joseph the Worker School. In addition to serving on the parish Finance Council, Steve is the financial chair of St. Joseph the Worker School, providing important coordination between the parish and school with respect to financial management.


Sarita Burgess White
and her family, husband Booker White and their two children, have been parishioners of St. Joseph the Worker Church since 1993. Their children graduated from St. Joseph the Worker School. Sarita is the morning Lector at the Tuesday, 6:30 a.m., Mass, as well as a Eucharistic Minister. She is also the head Coordinator at the 9:30 a.m. Sunday Mass. She was a catechist for two years and served for four years on the Pastoral Council.

Sarita has 34 years in banking experience and was an Assistant Vice President in various capacities including administrative, customer service, client support, and treasury cash management. She completed the Parish Business Administration Course for Parish Business Managers at Loyola Marymount University in May 2015.
