Celebrating Shared Faith

"The liturgy is the summit toward which the activity of the Church is directed . . .  [and] the font from which all her power flows."

— Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, Vatican II

At Sunday and weekday Masses, we gather as a community to give praise to God, hear the Word proclaimed, and share in a sacred meal. The Greek word “liturgy” meant “work of and for the people.” In the early church everyone had something to do. Liturgy was not a spectator event, but rather a gathering of active participants. Each person who had come to celebrate had a task—leading the prayer, supplying the gifts to be blessed, telling the stories about Jesus, reading a letter from a friend who couldn’t be there, singing, or simply listening.

At St. Joseph the Worker we encourage the full, active participation of all who come to celebrate. Everyone has a place at the table, and as a members of the assembly, everyone has something to do. Whether you choose to worship in English, Spanish, or Vietnamese, whether you enjoy traditional choral music or prefer a contemporary sound,  we hope you will find this place of worship an environment where your faith is enriched, your soul nourished, and your spirit uplifted.

There are many opportunities to gather with one another to celebrate shared faith and to offer your gifts and talents in a variety of liturgical ministries.
